I am writing a persuasive essay for school and i was wondering if it was correct to add my own opinion? or to just add facts and statistics and stuff like that.
for example say i was writing about legalizing marijuana should I tell how i feel about the subject? or just be impartial and stick to facts?
Oh and also, when writing a persuasive essay, make sure not to use the terms you. dont direct it the reader..
Like "you would benefit from whatever" etc. xD And you can add your opinion, just dont use i.

Does someone’s opinion ever persuade you? Or are you more swayed by facts?
I’m thinking that facts are more persuasive then unsupported opinion.
However, if you can present facts, but use your opinion to give you writing passion, it can be more effective.

well, yes and no… dont use the word "I" when referring to how you feel, like "I think…" or "I believe that…" etc.
example: say you are persuading to legalize marijuna, you could say something like "legalizing marijuana would benefit so and so" etc… this is saying you agree that it should be legalized w/out using the word "I"

Persuasive writing is best when using a combination of fact and opinion. For your facts, try and back them up with evidence and/or statistics. For your opinions, don’t make them obvious – "I think that…" – try and make them more subtle, so they appear to be facts but have the same effect that an opinion would give you – "marijuana is an awful substance that destroys lives and tears apart families". It’s an opinion, but you’re stating it as if it is a fact, which works well.
